Roland joined the European Vaccine Initiative in October 2021 as a project manager.
He has extensive experience in malaria research where he worked for 14+ years on projects investigating protective immune responses against the malaria parasite.
In 2014, Roland gained his doctorate in Biosciences (Dr. rer. nat.) from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität, Heidelberg. During his doctorate and following post doc studies at the Center for Infectious Diseases in Heidelberg, Roland focused on immunological projects investigating cellular immunity against pre-erythrocytic parasite stages.
Before joining EVI, Roland worked for three years as a project manager in the team of Prof. Faith Osier where he was responsible for overseeing teams and individual scientists working on vaccine candidate discovery and naturally acquired humoral immunity to malaria in Germany and Kenya.
Roland is passionate about the impact that scientific discoveries can bring to bear to reduce the burden of disease especially for the worlds’ poorest.
