Flavia D'Alessio

Head of Vaccine Research

Flavia D’Alessio joined the European Vaccine Initiative in September 2013. She is responsible for coordinating and supporting the preclinical and early clinical development of promising vaccine candidates to address major public health challenges, particularly those disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries. In her capacity, Flavia works closely with partners from academia and other research institutions, the private sector, regulatory agencies, and various organisations worldwide to promote translational vaccine research & development (R&D).

Flavia obtained a joint PhD degree in molecular biology in 2012 from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the Heidelberg University, where she also continued her work as Postdoctoral Researcher. Flavia holds a Master of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the University of Naples “Federico II” and carried out her Master thesis research at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM) in Naples. Flavia has authored and co-authored several scientific articles published in international journals.

Besides her work at EVI, Flavia also contributes to outreach and educational programs aiming at encouraging scientific knowledge in children.
