Samiratu Yakubu
WHO-TDR Clinical Research Fellow
Samiratu Yakubu is a pharmacist with over seven years of experience in clinical trials regulation and Good Clinical Practice. She currently serves as a regulatory officer at the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in Ghana, where she plays a critical role in the scientific review and evaluation of clinical trial applications. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Drug Development from University College London, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Ghana. She has further enhanced her knowledge through specialized training in statistics, pharmacovigilance, and regulatory excellence.
Her research interests lie in infectious diseases like malaria, particularly in the development and evaluation of vaccines to combat high-burden diseases in low- and middle-income countries. As a WHO-TDR Clinical Research Fellow, Samiratu aims to gain practical experience in managing multi-national vaccine development projects. Her expectations include acquiring hands-on skills in project management, regulatory submissions, and stakeholder coordination. Upon completion of the fellowship, Samiratu plans to apply her newly acquired skills to contribute to the regulatory oversight of vaccine clinical trials in Ghana.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Samiratu enjoys reading fictional novels, particularly romance and historical fiction. She has a passion for traveling and exploring new cultures, as well as indulging in shopping as a way to unwind.
