Michel Bashimbe

TDR/WHO Fellow

Dr Michel Bashimbe joined the European Vaccine Initiative (EVI) in April 2026 as a Research Fellow under the WHO-TDR Clinical Research Leadership Programme. He obtained his medical doctor degree in 2022 from the Université Catholique de Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and began his career as a volunteer first aider with the Red Cross. He further developed his interest in research through his involvement with the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology and the International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases.
In 2024, he joined the Center for Tropical Diseases and Global Health as a Research Assistant, contributing to the Mpox response through the Smallpox Vaccine (MVA-BN) for Mpox Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (SMART Trial) and later serving as a co-investigator on related research projects. In 2025, he was selected for the Y-Health Bingwa Plus programme by Africa CDC. These experiences shaped his commitment to global health and led him to join EVI. He is passionate about advancing global health through clinical research and is dedicated to contributing to the prevention and control of tropical diseases and global epidemics, with a focus on improving health outcomes in vulnerable communities.
